The CEDA/Demography Lab is the computing facility for the UC Berkeley Department of Demography and the Center for the Economics and Demography of Aging . The Lab consists of a small core of powerful Unix servers, and 40 workstations running Linux (FedoraCore5).

The lab is designed to provide a computing environment that is optimized for research and teaching in Demography. All major (and several not so major) statistical packages are supported as are compiled and interpreted programming languages. Users have access to large amounts of disk space and powerful UNIX processors.

Windows applications running under Wine emulation (on Linux) are supported for administrative purposes.

The Lab is available to Faculty and Students of the University of California, while they are engaged in teaching, learning, or research in Demography.

New users are encouraged to study bot the Getting Started document, and the 12 most important Unix commands.
