Elizabeth A. Breen

Sociology and Demography PhD

Elizabeth’s research comprises two strands of interest. For the first, she studies the interplay between infectious disease, history, and human health. This includes the way that historical outbreaks have shaped contemporary social organization, as well as the effects of historical events and social forces on health outcomes. This work engages with the social and historical determinants of health, the persistence of structural inequalities, and legacies of racialized violence. The second strand of Elizabeth’s research examines structural conditions of freedom and domination in the context of crisis and neoliberalism. This work focuses on the effects of domination on identity, community, and belonging. Methodologically, Elizabeth integrates archival, computational, demographic, and qualitative research methods.
