Steven Herrera Tenorio

Sociology and Demography PhD

Steven is a Ph.D. Student in the Sociology and Demography program. He is broadly interested in understanding mechanisms that make demographic change possible, with a specific focus on immigration from Latin America to the American South. This includes modifying quantitative methods to address important socio-historical constructions that challenge nominally consistent categories and anachronistic accounts of historical change. He has co-published an article in Scientific Data, and is a 2023-2026 Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellow and a 2021-2023 Chancellor’s Fellow, with additional funding/training from the Russell Sage Foundation, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, UC-Berkeley Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, and UC-Berkeley Latinx Research Center.
