Demography PhD

Juana Montoya Murillo (she/her) is a PhD candidate in Demography at the University of California, Berkeley. Her interest in demographic research emerged from studying migration from Venezuela to Colombia and comparing the morbidity profiles of Venezuelan migrants with those of other vulnerable groups in Colombia. She earned her B.Sc. in Statistics from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and her B.Sc. in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia. Currently, Juana’s research examines how changes in abortion policy influence reproductive health outcomes, with a particular focus on differences between migrant and non-migrant women in Colombia.
